MONOCHROME, WARMED BY LIGHT
Private Client
Seocho-gu, Seoul

Project Details:
Apartmentary transformed this approximately 1,993 sq ft residence, originally built in 2004, into a calm and contemporary home shaped by dark finishes, warm lighting, and carefully concealed storage.
The renovation covered the living room, kitchen, bathroom, bedrooms, and entry. Black ceramic, bronze glass, layered lighting, and custom millwork create a restrained monochromatic palette while giving each space its own architectural character.

Project Overview

A darker palette, softened by light.
The project was built around contrast—deep, matte finishes balanced by warm indirect lighting and lighter architectural surfaces.
Rather than relying on decoration, the design uses proportion, illumination, and seamless transitions to create depth. Built-in storage and hidden doors keep the visual language calm and continuous throughout the home.
Design Approach

Minimal in expression, precise in function.
In the kitchen, black ceramic surfaces create a strong, monolithic presence, while the central island anchors the room and improves circulation. A secondary kitchen adds functionality, and an integrated wine cellar near the entry introduces a subtle hospitality element.
In the living area, recessed ceiling details and indirect lighting bring dimension to the space without adding visual noise.
Details

Light becomes part of the material palette.
The bathroom combines a freestanding tub, integrated indirect lighting, and a bronze-glass shower enclosure to create a more intimate, atmospheric retreat.
At the entry, concealed pantry storage keeps the space visually clean, while a black sliding door framed by an arched opening creates a defined yet understated transition into the home.
